RIDGETOP, Tenn. – The cameras are rolling in Robertson County.

Filming for the new “Hannah Montana” movie continued Monday north of Nashville.

Reporter Phil Jones had a great view over the lights, cameras and action in NewsChannel 5′s news helicopter Sky 5.

Scenes were shot at Smiley Hollow, a special events facility in Ridgetop, which is about 20 miles north of downtown Nashville.

Smiley Hollow was transformed into a giant carnival for some scenes and a musical number featuring teen pop singer and actress Miley Cyrus.

Filming is expected to take two weeks. About 500 movie extras were on hand to help shoot the movie Monday and 2,500 movie extras are expected at Tuesday.

NASHVILLE — The upcoming Hannah Montana movie will be filmed in Middle Tennessee and Los Angeles, a spokeswoman for The Walt Disney Co. said Thursday evening.

Filming will begin in early May with the movie scheduled for release May 1, 2009, according to spokeswoman Heidi Trotta.

Trotta did not provide details about the shoot.

State officials have been negotiating with Disney for at least six months to get the movie made in Tennessee.

“At one time, they were definitely going to Louisiana. Then it was between Louisiana and Tennessee, and then I was left with the impression that it definitely would be Tennessee,” said Perry Gibson, executive director of the Tennessee Film and Entertainment Commission.

Singer Billy Ray Cyrus wants his daughter’s “Hannah Montana” film to be shot in Tennessee, but state officials say they might not be able to offer producers enough financial incentives. The film, based on the popular Disney TV series, is scheduled to start shooting in April. Billy Ray Cyrus plays her father. Cyrus said the movie is centered on the fictional Stewart family’s return to Tennessee and it is only fitting for it to be shot in Tennessee. The real-life Cyrus family also has a home in Tennessee and was in town for Thanksgiving during a break on Miley Cyrus’ sold-out tour, which comes to Cleveland Thursday, Jan. 3. Perry Gibson of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission said the state could benefit from having the movie shot locally, but the state is limited in what incentives it can offer.
