The rumor buzzed around Nation radio stations that Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter and star of Hannah Montana was pregnant! It caused an uproar, and my local radio show actually chimed in on the Hannah Montana pregnancy.
I was shocked when slews of mothers were calling in the station and announcing on the air that Miley was a dirty rotten no good piece of garbage role model…all because of this rumor.
However at the time the rumor was supposedly ‘confirmed’. Before looking into the ‘rumor’ though, the damage was already done. Miley Cyrus’ name had already hit the news, and with the word confirmed attached to the story, people by nature believed that it was true.
The Miley Cyrus pregnancy rumor began when a hacker hacked into a J-14 article, and edited the actual content. The content then spread like a virus across the internet, confirming her pregnancy.
I find it strange that so many people were calling her these terrible names and an bad mouthing the 15 year old celebrity. Statements on how she was a sleazy role model, a dirt bag, and how they would make sure their daughters would no longer be watching her on TV because she was pregnant, were made. One crazed woman even went as far as saying she was throwing out all of her little girls Hannah Montana merchandise!
I found this appalling because the reality is MANY 15 year old girls get pregnant in real life…and rumors are reality. It is my opinion that even if Miley was really pregnant she would make for an excellent role model for young girls dealing with the same issues. I do not see how some parents cannot relate to the positive outcome of this. They only see the small picture, and that is sad. Having someone to relate to would help with psychological issues, and I don’t understand how some don’t see that.
I’m not saying she should go out and get pregnant, but I am saying that many young girls look up to and listen to celebrities…seeing how we have yet to have a young teen starlet deal with the actual issue of pregnancy, I feel that having this occurrence could possibly help a young celebrity be a better role model, and spokesperson on the issue.
The problem with teen pregnancy is not the lack of education, it’s the age groups that pregnancy issues are targeted at. Back in 7th grade we had 3 teen pregnancies in our school. Health covering teen pregnancy did not begin till 10th grade though. Perhaps beginning health classes on pregnancy issues should be done earlier on in life?
Here is what J-14 magazine had to say about the rumor that began in their magazine:
“Despite Internet rumors, J-14 NEVER reported that Miley Cyrus is pregnant. Someone doctored the “This Just In” article that appeared on page 16 of J-14’s July 2007 issue, where a few of Miley’s Hannah Montana co-stars talked about her gross habits.
“Miley is an intelligent, respectable role model for young girls, and we at J-14 pride ourselves on presenting our readers with credible stories and information. This story is completely fabricated!”
A comedy writer is suing The Walt Disney Co., alleging he came up with the idea for the teen television show ”Hannah Montana” but was never compensated.
Buddy Sheffield filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday alleging breach of contract, breach of confidence, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.
Disney officials could not be reached at the company’s Burbank offices Thursday evening for comment.
Sheffield, who has written for ”The Smothers Brothers Show,” ”The Dolly Parton Show” and ”In Living Color,” says he pitched an idea for a television series called ”Rock and Roland” to the Disney Channel in 2001. The story was about a junior high school student who lived a secret double life as a rock star, according to the lawsuit.
Disney Channel officials at first liked the idea, but ultimately passed on it, the lawsuit alleges.
The Disney Channel’s ”Hannah Montana” is about high school student Miley Stewart, who lives a secret double life as a famous pop star.
”Hannah Montana,” starring Miley Cyrus and her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, has generated two hit music CDs and helped sell a great deal of merchandise. Sheffield says he deserves a share of the revenue.
